All govt employees ordered to submit wealth statements

The government has directed all public service holders to submit their property statements.

This directive was issued in a notice signed by Senior Secretary Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman of the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Mokhles ur Rahman said that the government has decided to submit the wealth statements of all government employees. We will prepare the format on how to submit it.

There are currently around 15 lakh government employees in the country. The government employees are supposed to submit their asset statements to the regulatory authorities in every five years.

However, no one follows the code of conduct of the job. Ministries, Departments, Offices, and Organizations controlling the employees are not bothered about taking the statements of wealth.

The current interim government started working on this within a month of assuming office.

In 1979, the provision of submitting asset statements every five years was introduced for government employees. It was added to the ‘Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979’ to ensure accountability.

It is said that government employees should submit the asset statements to their respective offices every year. However, in 2002, theules were amended and instead of one year, the provision of submitting wealth statements of employees was introduced every five years. But for four decades this rule could not be fully observed.

The interim government has taken steps on this issue again. The Ministry of Public Administration has ordered to submit wealth statement.
