Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has officially recognized Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP from Dhaka-15 constituency, as the Leader of the Opposition in the 13th National Assembly. At the same time, Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, MP from Comilla-11 constituency, has been recognized as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
The Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat published a gazette in this regard on March 12.
The gazette issued by the National Parliament Secretariat said that they have been given this recognition in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the National Parliament and Rule 2(1)(p) of the Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Remuneration and Amenities) Act, 2021.
The gazette also mentioned that the Speaker has recognized the opposition party or coalition as the leader and deputy leader of the opposition in the 13th National Parliament, as they have the largest number of members.
As a result, the formal leadership of the opposition in parliament will now be in the hands of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and he will be assisted by Deputy Leader Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher.
